Ordering repeat prescriptions

An easy way to order repeat prescriptions is by:

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • complete an online request form.
  • complete a paper form at the surgery, Monday to Friday during our opening hours
  • phone the surgery on 0114 2299835 and choose option 2 to leave a message of your medication request.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescribed medication from a pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

We can send your prescription electronically to your chosen pharmacy for them to dispense. You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescribed medication from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the NHS App or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

We do not change a nominated pharmacy unless a patient informs us that they want to change the pharmacy they use.

Patients can also collect the paper prescription if they prefer, which you can take to any pharmacy.

If your medication request is urgent and you feel you may run out, please speak with a member of our staff who will do their best to help.

Dispensary

We are only able to dispense prescriptions from our on site dispensary for those patients who live more than one mile from the nearest pharmacy.

We will dispense to patients living in Wharncliffe Side, Bradfield and other outlying areas, during surgery opening hours. Please allow three working days if you would like a repeat prescription request to be dispensed from our dispensary. Should you require urgent medication when the Dispensary is closed, please ring 111 who will be able to help you. Please ensure that you order your repeat medication in plenty of time and well before you run out.

Dispensary Opening Times:

Monday 8:30am to 6:30pm

Tuesday 8:00am to 6:30pm

Wednesday 8:00am to 6:30pm

Thursday 8:30am to 3.00pm

Friday 8.00am to 6:30pm

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription then please fill in the online request form on our home page.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Please take any unused medication to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
